INVITATION TO THE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE MEDIA

What: The African Games 2nd Joint and Chefs De Mission Meetings

The 2nd Joint and Chefs de Mission meetings will be organized as follows:

  • 28 to 29 September 2023: The Technical Committee for the African Games Meeting;
  • 30th  September to 1st  October 2023: The 2nd Joint Meeting; 
  • 2nd to 3rd October 2023: The 1st Meeting of the Chefs de Mission and Head of Delegations.

When: 28th September – 3rd October 2023‎.

Where: Alisa Hotel, Accra, Ghana.

Who: The African Union Sports Council Technical Committee for the African Games in collaboration with Local Organizing Committee Accra 2023 will organize the 2nd Joint and Chefs de Mission meetings.

Why: The African Games is a multisport event owned by African Union on behalf of its Member States. The Games are organized every four years, one year before the Olympic Games. They are a platform for African athletes to show case their skills and talents, promote African cultural values, heritage and integration. The Games can also promote social cohesion that potential to promote a culture of peace on the continent. 

The 13th Edition of the African Games will be held in Accra Ghana from 8 to 23 March, 2024. The African Games will be organized in collaboration with the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) and the Association of Africa Sports Confederations (AASC) following a Negotiated Agreement signed in February 2023 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on the Management and Organization of the 13th Edition of the African Games.

Objectives:

The 2nd Joint and Chefs de Mission Meetings will provide an opportunity for African Games key stakeholders to inspect Games facilities, evaluate the status of readiness regarding the preparations for African Games and to familiarizse themselves with the Games Governing instruments such as Fundamental & General Regulations and Creative Identity Manual. The meeting will also discuss issues related to technical aspects of the Games such as qualification procedures for team sports, team draw events and regulations for specific sports codes. Specific objectives are the following:

  1. Inspection of the sports facilities and other Games related infrastructure.
  2. Familiarise with Games Governing instruments.
  3. Deliberate on key issues related to technical aspects of the African Games.

Expected outcomes:

  1. Technical Report on the status of the 13th African Games Sports facilities.
  2. Buy-in and mutual understanding between key stakeholders in the organization of the Games.

Participation at the event:

The African Games 2nd Joint and Chefs De Mission Meetings will be attended by Technical Committee for the African Games; African Sports Confederations in the 13th African Games Sports Programme; Heads of Delegations and Chefs de Mission from participating Countries; World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA’s) Africa Office; and Media.
