      Industry Intel Session at Mining Indaba 2024: "The African Green Minerals Strategy.

      What: Experts and leaders will gather for the Industry Intel Session at Mining Indaba 2024 focused on "the African Green Minerals Strategy: A Game Changer for Africa’s Minerals-based Industrialization". The event will also be an opportunity to launch the Assessment Reports on governance initiatives and approaches on sustainable management of mineral resources, aligning with the principles of the African Mining Vision reflecting on Morocco, Ghana, Gabon, and Zambia.

      Who: The event will be addressed by among others, senior official of the African Union African Minerals Development Centre (AMDC) and AUDA-NEPAD; Government Officials with portfolios for the mining sector or natural resources from the Republics of Chad, Zambia, Nigeria, Ghana, and Uganda; and the African Development Bank; the African Legal Support Facility (ALSF); Tax Justice Network (TJNA); Global Gateway; OXFAM; OSF.

      When: 7 February, 2024, 1400 hours SAST.

      Where:  Mining Indaba, Insiders Stage (Cticc Roof Terrace), Cape Town, South Africa.

      Background information.

      The African Minerals Development Centre as an African Union entity coordinates and oversees the implementation of the Africa Mining Vision and its Action plan to enable the minerals resource sector play its role in the social and economic transformation, inclusive growth and sustainable development of African economies, in conjunction with Member States, Regional Economic Communities (RECs), the private sector, civil society organizations including women and youth organizations, collaborating institutions and other key stakeholders.

      The main objective of the African Union African Mining Development Centre Industry Intel Session is to showcase the principles of the draft African Green Minerals Strategy. The strategy is poised to revolutionize Africa's minerals-based industrialization by proactively engaging with the new conditions arising from the energy transition and enhancing the existing bodies of mineral development policies.

      The event will further serve as an opportunity to launch the summary of assessment reports for Morocco, Ghana, Gabon, and Zambia, on governance initiatives, approaches on sustainable management of mineral resources and their alignment with the principles of the Africa Mining Vision (AMV).
