Webinar Series on Accelerating the Adoption and Implementation of the Continental Teacher Qualification Framework (CTQF) and the Continental Framework for Standards and Competences for the Teaching Profession (CFSCTP)

What:  Webinar Series on Accelerating the Adoption and Implementation of the Continental Teacher Qualification Framework (CTQF) and the Continental Framework for Standards and Competences for the Teaching Profession (CFSCTP). This Webinar Series is designed as a strategic platform to engage, inform, and mobilize AU Member States, RECs, and other stakeholders toward the effective adoption, domestication, and implementation of the Continental Teacher Qualification Framework (CTQF) and the Continental Framework for Standards and Competences for the Teaching Profession (CFSCTP). The Webinars aim to ensure that the frameworks are understood not as abstract continental initiatives, but as practical instruments that can be adapted to national needs and support teacher development and management reforms. It will target senior policymakers, teacher regulatory bodies, accreditation agencies, teacher training institutions, education quality assurance organizations, and development partners.

        When: 18 July 2025, 1100-1230 (EAT)

        Where: virtual.
        Register here: https://shorturl.at/oeWxX

Why: The African Union (AU), through the Continental Education Strategy for Africa 2016–2025 (CESA 16-25), prioritizes the revitalization of the teaching profession to ensure quality, relevance, and equity in African education systems. In pursuit of this, the AU, in collaboration with key stakeholders, developed the Continental Teacher Qualification Framework (CTQF) and the Continental Framework for Standards and Competences for the Teaching Profession (CFSCTP). These instruments aim to harmonize teacher qualifications and professional standards across Member States and Regional Economic Communities (RECs), facilitating teacher mobility, promoting professionalism, and ensuring quality education delivery across Africa.

Despite these achievements, widespread adoption and integration into national education systems remain uneven. Strengthened technical support and advocacy are needed to foster ownership, contextualization, and operationalization of these frameworks at national and regional levels.

Recognizing teachers as critical agents for achieving Agenda 2063 and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) aspirations, the AU Commission is convening a Webinar Series dedicated to promoting the Continental Teacher Qualification Framework (CTQF) and the Continental Framework for Standards and Competences for the Teaching Profession (CFSCTP). The Series will provide Member States and RECs with detailed orientation on the frameworks, share experiences from pilot countries, and offer technical guidance on contextualization and alignment processes.

        Objectives

The overall objective is to promote the adoption, contextualization, and operationalization of the Continental Teacher Qualification Framework (CTQF) and the Continental Framework for Standards and Competences for the Teaching Profession (CFSCTP) across African Union Member States and RECs.

        Specific Objectives include:

        1. To raise awareness and understanding of the Continental Teacher Qualification Framework (CTQF) and the Continental Framework for Standards and Competences for the Teaching Profession (CFSCTP) among key education stakeholders.
        2. To provide technical guidance on the processes of aligning national and regional frameworks with the Continental Teacher Qualification Framework (CTQF) and the Continental Framework for Standards and Competences for the Teaching Profession (CFSCTP).
        3. To share best practices, lessons learned, and experiences from countries and regions that have piloted or adopted the frameworks.
        4. To foster dialogue and peer learning among Member States and RECs.
        5. To identify technical support needs and mechanisms for capacity building and policy development.
        6. To strengthen commitment toward harmonized teacher qualification and professional standards across Africa.

        Expected Outcomes

By the end of the Webinar Series, it is expected that:

        1. Participants have an enhanced understanding of the Continental Teacher Qualification Framework (CTQF) and the Continental Framework for Standards and Competences for the Teaching Profession (CFSCTP), content, purpose, and adoption processes.
        2. Member States and RECs express commitment to align national and regional frameworks with the Continental Teacher Qualification Framework (CTQF) and the Continental Framework for Standards and Competences for the Teaching Profession (CFSCTP).
        3. Increased collaboration and networking among Member States and RECs, measured by the number of joint initiatives, workshops, and information-sharing platforms.
        4. Technical support needs are documented, and mechanisms for capacity building and policy development are established, with clear indicators of their utilization and effectiveness.
        5. Increased number of Member States adopting and implementing harmonized teacher qualification and professional standards, tracked through policy changes and implementation reports.

        Participants

The webinar will bring together a diverse range of stakeholders, including Education Ministries, Teacher Training Institutions, Regulatory Bodies, RECs, Experts and Development Partners.

Media are invited to connect and attend the webinar on Friday, 18 July 2025 11:00 – 12:30 (GMT).For media inquiries, please contact:
