      African Union Commission to Host 10th Specialized Technical Committee on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (STC-GEWE) and Pre-CSW70 Consultations.

      The African Union Commission (AUC)'s Women, Gender and Youth Directorate (WGYD) will convene the 10th Specialized Technical Committee on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment (STC on GEWE) and the Africa Pre-Commission on the Status of Women 70 Consultation (Pre-CSW70).

      This high-level hybrid meeting brings together AU Ministers responsible for Gender and Women's Affairs and their Experts to deliberate on key continental and global policy on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment.

      Key Objectives and Agenda Highlights

      The 10th STC on GEWE and the Pre-CSW70 will focus on four critical areas:

      • Implementation of the Solemn Declaration on Gender Equality in Africa (SDGEA): Ministers will consider and adopt the 2024 Reports on the Solemn Declaration on Gender Equality in Africa (SDGEA).
      • AU Convention on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls: The meeting aims to mobilize political will to accelerate the signature, ratification, domestication and implementation of the Convention into national laws.
      • Common African Position (CAP) on CSW70: The consultation will be dedicated to drafting and adopting the CAP to articulate African priorities, policy recommendations, and key messages for the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70), scheduled for March 2026 in New York, USA.
      • Women's Economic Empowerment: Deliberations will cover the Mid-Term Progress Report on the Decade of Women's Financial and Economic Inclusion (2020-2030).
      •  Reflect on priorities from the G20 Working Group on Women's Empowerment, specifically focusing on the Care Economy
