AU Peace Fund Board of Trustees Reviews Financial Status and Advances in Resource Mobilization Efforts
The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the African Union (AU) Peace Fund, convened its 27th statutory meeting virtually on 2nd April 2026 to deliberate on key issues related to financial performance, resource mobilization, governance coordination, and ongoing institutional strengthening activities of the Fund. The meeting provided an opportunity to review progress achieved and outline priorities for enhancing the Fund’s sustainability and impact.
Co-chaired by H.E. Amb. Selma Malika Haddadi, the Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, and H.E. Anicet Dologuele, Chairperson of the Board of Treasure, the session noted with appreciation the steady progress of the AU Peace Fund since its revitalization. As of February 2026, the Fund’s balance stands at approximately USD 400 million, after cumulative disbursements of USD 39 million in support of peace and security initiatives across the continent over the past two and half years. Trustees commended Member States and partners for their continued contributions, reflecting growing confidence in the Fund’s governance framework.
The Board reviewed ongoing resource mobilization efforts to close the remaining funding gap and took note of the Executive Council’s endorsement to expand the Peace Fund’s capitalization target to USD 1 billion. Trustees underscored the importance of strengthened partnerships, innovative financing approaches, and sustained political commitment to ensure predictable and sustainable financing for Africa’s peace and security priorities.
The Board highlighted the importance of strengthening coordination among the Peace Fund’s governance organs, including the Board of Trustees, the Executive Management Committee, the Independent Evaluation Group, and the Peace and Security Council. In this regard, the Board welcomed preparations for an inaugural joint retreat to be held in Addis Ababa in May, which will bring together all governance mechanisms of Peace Fund to enhance alignment, strategic coherence, and collective decision-making .
The Board reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and sound financial stewardship in the management of the AU Peace Fund. Trustees reiterated that the Fund remains a central pillar of Africa’s peace and security architecture, supporting African-led solutions and advancing the objectives of Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want .
