The Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mr. Kwesi Quartey, led the Commission on Thursday, July 25, to mark the African Day of the Sea and Oceans at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa. The theme of the event was Towards a Globally-binding Instrument on Marine Biological Diversity in Areas beyond National Jurisdictions”.

Addis Ababa, 25 July 2019, Today, the African continent celebrates the Africa Day of Seas and Oceans, and in my capacity as the African Union’s Commissioner in charge of Rural Economy and Agriculture which includes the environment portfolio and by extension the Blue Economy component, I would like to take this opportunity to extend my sincere congratulations to all African Union Member States, Regional Economic Communities and partners and wish them joyful commemorations.

Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of AUC and H.E. Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary General of the League of Arab States, with the participation of senior officials from both organizations.
