The Peace and Security Council,

The Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the African Union (AU), dedicated its 951st meeting, held on 5 October 2020, to a virtual open session on the theme: “Implementation and Commemoration of United Nations (UN) Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security”. The Open Session was held to mark, both, the 20th Anniversary of the adoption of UNSC Resolution 1325 and coincided with the 25th Anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.

The Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mr. Kwesi Quartey, received H.E. Ambassador Birgitte Markussen, the new Head of the European Union Delegation to the African Union.

Welcoming H.E. Markussen to the Commission, the Deputy Chairperson recalled the existing historical bonds between Africa and Europe and underscored the relevance of building on the relationship between the two continents.

H.E. Dr Amani Abou-Zeid, Commissioner for Infrastructure & Energy participated at the Energy Regulators Association of East Africa’s Webinar on “Empowering Women in the Energy Sector of Africa”, aiming at discussing gender gaps within the African energy sector and exploring opportunities and strategies to integrate and empower women within the energy sector value chain.
