H.E President William Samoei Ruto (PhD), President of the Republic of Kenya and the African Union Champion on Institutional Reform. H.E. Ruto was appointed during the 37th Assembly of Heads of State and Government in February 2024 to champion the AU Institutional Reform process taking over from the H.E Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda who led the implementation of the reform process since 2016.

JOHANNESBURG, 31 MAY - Impacts of the current COVID-19 global pandemic to Africa could be devastating to livelihoods, health and food security. Despite the upsurge in humanitarian measures to support vulnerable people on the continent, the compounded effects of health and food security crises are placing a heavy burden on African economies.
H.E. Amani Abou-Zeid, Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy joined top-level leaders for a closed-door “COP26 Energy Efficiency Champions Call”, hosted by the UK Government, and supported by the International Energy Agency (IEA).
For the first time, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) in collaboration with the Operations Division of the African Union Peace and Security Department (PSD) successfully deployed 28 frontline responders from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Mali and Niger through activation of the African Union Strategic Lift Capability.

Quartey Thomas Kwesi, today announced a new African Union initiative under the auspices of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) - the Kofi Annan Global Health Leadership Programme - in memory of the lateKofi Atta Annan, seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, and founding chair of the Kofi Annan Foundation.
