Addis Ababa, 15th January 2019: The African Union Commission Deputy Chairperson, H.E. Amb. Kwesi Quartey, received today, Ms. Hanna Serwaah Tetteh, the UN Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Office to the African Union.

Welcoming Ms. Hanna Serwaah Tetteh to the African Union headquarters, Amb. Quartey underscored the importance of building on the existing collaboration between the African Union and the United Nations on issues relating to peace and security as well as sustainable development in Africa.

African Union Commission Chairperson begins a two day visit to Qatar

Addis Ababa, 13 January 2019: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, arrived in Doha, earlier today, on his first official visit to the State of Qatar.

During his two-day visit, the Chairperson is expected to meet His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar. He is also scheduled to hold discussions with the Chairman of the Shura Council and the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The Chairperson is accompanied by the Commissioner of Social Affairs, Amira El Fadil, and other senior African Union officials.

The Chairperson received the credentials of incoming Special Representative of the UN Secretary General, HE Hanna Tettah.

The Chairperson received the credentials of incoming Special Representative of the UN Secretary General, HE Hanna Tettah in Addis Ababa on 11th January 2019.

Chairperson Faki welcomed HE Tetteh to Addis Abeba, and thanked the UN Secretary General for his choice of appointing HE Tetteh, whose experience and collaboration with the African Union on carrying out the African Agenda during her former roles, makes her a vital link in further implementing the joint UN AU framework agreements on Peace&Security and development priorities.

African Union Launches Its First Ever Supply Chain Platform

Hawassa, 15th January 2019: The African Union (AU) launched Supply Chain Platform during a workshop that has been held from 14 – 18 January 2019 in Hawassa, Ethiopia. The workshop serves as an experience sharing platform in the areas of supply chain management. In the same token, it is expected that the Forum will create community of public procurement and supply chain practitioners who will continue to work together.

A good evening to you. I am very pleased to join you today to launch the African Union’s revitalised Peace Fund. Thank you for making the time to be here, especially the Heads of State and Government here present.

Promoting peace and security is one of the core functions of our Union. However, up to this point, we have lacked a credible mechanism to fund our priority operations in this domain. We depended too extensively on external resources.
