The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), in partnership with the African Union Commission (AUC), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the International Labour Organization (ILO), has officially validated its Labour Migration Strategy and Action Plan (LMSAP), marking a key step toward more coordinated, rights-based governance of labour mobility in the region.

H.E. @ymahmoudali, Chairperson of the AU Commission, held a fruitful meeting with H.E. Mr. Artur Martirosyan, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture & Sport of the Republic of Armenia. They explored opportunities for enhanced collaboration in education, science, and technology.

The Chairperson acknowledged the historical ties between Armenia and Africa, and expressed appreciation for Armenia’s partnership with African countries in advancing STEM education through the establishment of dedicated centres.

H.E. @ymahmoudali, Chairperson of the AU Commission, convened RECs, RMs & AUDA-NEPAD, urging enhanced coordination with the AUC & among RECs. He affirmed that RECs/RMs are pillars of the Union & essential for integration, peace & resilience.
Amid global shocks, he called for unified, strategic action, stressing that peace underpins development. Africa’s G20 engagement, he noted, must be cohesive, underscoring the shift from parallel efforts to joint leadership to deepen AU–RECs collaboration to shape Africa’s future together.

The AU Commission Chairperson H.E. @ymahmoudali received H.E. Amb. Hirut Zemene, Permanent Representative of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the AU, who paid a courtesy call to convey her government’s support for the new leadership of the AUC. Their discussion also covered the progress of institutional reforms at the Commission and regional peace and security issues, notably Somalia, South Sudan, and Sudan.
