Disappearances of people in Africa are a major challenge and are driven by diverse factors that include armed conflict and insecurity, governance, environmental degradation and climate change as well as economic necessity coupled with increasingly restrictive migratory policies in many countries are driving more people towards ever more dangerous migratory routes.

Addis Ababa, 5th September, 2022: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E Moussa Faki Mahamat warmly congratulates H.E William Kipchirchir Samoei Arap Ruto upon his election as the President-elect of the Republic of Kenya following the successful conduct of General Elections on 9th August, 2022 and the unanimous judicial confirmation of the election outcome.

The Chairperson also commends the outgoing President H.E Uhuru Kenyatta for his strong and impactful leadership during his tenure of office.

The high-level consultation between the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) and Speakers of Regional and National Parliaments has concluded with calls for strengthening links through continental solidarity and support for the implementation of the continent's flagship development blueprint, the Agenda 2063. The meeting took place in Midrand, South Africa on the sidelines of the Sitting of the PAP Committees under the African Union (AU) theme of the year 2022 as the year of Nutrition.

This new appointment is effective from 1 September 2022.

The African Union Commission (Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security) and the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation (CSVR) in collaboration with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Togo (HCRRUN) will be convening the Sixth Edition of the Continental Transitional Justice Forum, scheduled to be held in person in Lomé, Togo from 7- 9 September 2022.
