The African Union convened its Member States and strategic partners on Tuesday, 17^th March, followed by a technical capacity‑building session on domestic financing on Thursday, 19^th March 2026, at the Permanent Mission of the African Union to the United Nations. The engagements focused on advancing the operationalization of the African Union Accountability Framework, with a view to strengthening legal and community-based justice systems to enhance the protection of children and adolescents against cross-border trafficking, rights violations, and exploitation.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, joins the international community in commemorating the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade.

On this solemn occasion, the AUC Chairperson pays tribute to the millions of African women, men and children who were forcibly uprooted, subjected to inhumane suffering, and deprived of their dignity and fundamental rights, in what remains one of the darkest chapters in human history.

Theme: “Water and Gender: Where Water Flows, Equality Grows”

The African Union Pan-African Institute for Education for Development (AU IPED), through the Global Partnership for Education Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (GPE KIX) Africa 19 Hub a joint initiative with Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC), has successfully concluded a three-day workshop in Juba, South Sudan, to support the strengthening of the country’s Education Management Information System (EMIS).
