The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, extends his congratulations to the Government and people of the State of Eritrea on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the country’s Independence Day.

The AUC Chairperson said that the important occasion reflects the resilience, determination, and aspirations of the Eritrean people for sovereignty, peace, and national development.

The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf has appointed Dr. Yann Bedzigui as his new Chief of Staff.

Dr Bedzigui brings to the position a wealth of experience and distinguished service, and will support the Chairperson in advancing the vision, priorities, and institutional objectives of the Commission.

Mr. G. Rathinavelu, Chairman and Co-Founder of the Africa India Economic Foundation (AIEF), yesterday paid a courtesy call on the Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf.

They discussed on strengthening AU–AIEF cooperation in advancing Africa–India economic engagement, investment partnerships, innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development in line with Agenda 2063.

1. The Government of the Republic of India and the African Union have been working closely on the convening of the Fourth India–Africa Forum Summit (IAFS IV), initially scheduled to take place in New Delhi from 28–31 May 2026.

2. The two sides exchanged views on the evolving health situation in parts of Africa and reaffirmed the importance of continued cooperation in strengthening public health preparedness and response capacities across the continent, including through support to Africa CDC and relevant national institutions.
