H.E President William Samoei Ruto (PhD), President of the Republic of Kenya and the African Union Champion on Institutional Reform. H.E. Ruto was appointed during the 37th Assembly of Heads of State and Government in February 2024 to champion the AU Institutional Reform process taking over from the H.E Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda who led the implementation of the reform process since 2016.

WHAT: The official kick-off of the African Meteorological Satellite Applications Facility (AMSAF) is being convened following the recommendations of the inaugural Steering Committee of the Strengthening Early Warning Systems in Africa (SEWA) Project. The event is hosted by AUC- SEBE Directorate and organised by the SEWA implementing entities at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Introduction
The India–Africa Forum Summit is the highest institutional platform for cooperation between India and African countries under the leadership of the African Union. Established in 2008, the Summit aims to strengthen political dialogue, economic cooperation, trade, investment, technology transfer, capacity building and people-to-people relations between India and Africa.
The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, this afternoon received Justice Njoki Ndungu, candidate for the position of Judge of the International Criminal Court.
The Chairperson commended Justice Ndungu’s distinguished career in jurisprudence, including her service as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Kenya, as well as her extensive experience within multilateral institutions, notably the AU & the UN.
He further praised Kenya’s justice system as one of the continent’s most respected and advanced.

The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, this afternoon bade farewell to H.E. Amb. Hirut Zemene, Permanent Representative of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the African Union, on the completion of her tour of duty.
The Chairperson expressed his appreciation to Ambassador Hirut for her active & constructive engagement in the work of the Union, as well as for Ethiopia’s continued commitment to continental peace, regional integration & Africa’s development agenda.
The African Union Commission closely followed the high-level negotiations between the Federal Government of Somalia and the representatives of the Somali Future Council, convened in Mogadishu from 13 to 15 May 2026, and expresses concern that these negotiations concluded without a consensus.
The Commission commends the willingness of both the Federal Government, led by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and the opposition leadership, to engage in direct and inclusive dialogue in the higher interest of Somalia and the Somali people.
The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, today received the President of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR), Honourable Justice Blaise Tchikaya, at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa.
They discussed strengthening cooperation between the AU Commission & the ACHPR in advancing the continental human rights and justice architecture.
