I. INTRODUCTION
1. At the invitation of the Government of the Republic of Kenya and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, His Excellency Moussa Faki Mahamat, approved the deployment of an AU Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) to observe the 8 August 2017 General Election in the Republic of Kenya.

I INTRODUCTION
1. At the invitation of the Government of the Republic of Rwanda, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, His Excellency Moussa Faki Mahamat, approved the deployment of an AU Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) to observe the 3-4 August 2017 Presidential Election in the Republic of Rwanda

The 2017 General Elections in the Republic of Kenya will take place tomorrow, August 8.

We, the African Union Election Observer Mission (AUEOM), take this opportunity to wish the sister people of Kenya peaceful, free, fair and transparent elections.

We are happy that in this regard we echo an aspiration shared by the people of Kenya as a whole, including the political parties and the candidates concerned.

We say this informed by commitments made directly to us, and publicly to the people of Kenya, by the various stakeholders.

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE JOINT MEETING OF HEADS OF INTERNATIONAL OBSERVER MISSIONS TO THE 2017 GENERAL ELECTIONS IN KENYA
We the Heads of the following international observer missions present in Kenya: African Union (AU), Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), the Commonwealth, East African Community (EAC), European Union (EU), International Conference of the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), National Democratic Institute (NDI) and The Carter Center (TCC).
