New Study Reveals Economic Toll of Malnutrition in Democratic Republic Of Congo

KINSHASA 7 July 2017 – The economy of Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is losing 1,637 billion Congolese francs, or more than a billion dollars a year, to the effects of child undernutrition. This is equivalent to as much as 4.5 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).*

Moussa Faki Mahamat, has authorized the deployment of the African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) to Kenya to observe the country’s general elections scheduled for 8th August 2017.

Addis Ababa, 4th July 2017- Heads of State and Government meeting on Tuesday adopted the Declaration on Accelerating Implementation of International Health Regulations in Africa. The Declaration seeks to address the increasing public health events and recurrent epidemics on the continent and their huge socio-economic impact. Many African countries have not adequately implemented International Health Regulations to prevent, protect against, control and provide a public health response to the international spread of diseases.

Nairobi 5th July 2017 -The Department of Political Affairs (DPA) of the African Union Commission in collaboration with the National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC) of Somalia has concluded a three-day BRIDGE (Building Resources in Democracy, Governance and Elections) training workshop on Electoral Systems.

The BRIDGE workshop took place from 3-5 July 2017 in Nairobi, Kenya. It consisted of twenty participants comprising senior NIEC officials as well as policy makers involved in the constitution-making process as well as the drafting of the electoral law.
