Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – 13 February 2016: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma has called for smooth and peaceful proceedings in the upcoming Presidential run-off and legislative elections in the Central African Republic (CAR). She welcomed the calm atmosphere under which the first round of general elections took place on 30 December 2015, “despite evident organizational and security challenges”.

Niamey, 14 February 2016: Following the invitation by the Government of the Republic of Niger, the Chairperson of the AUC has decided to deploy an Electoral Observation Mission (AUEOM) to the 2016 Parliamentary and Presidential Elections in that country. The mission will be led by His Excellency Jean Eyeghé Ndong, Former Prime Minister of the Republic of Gabon.

AUEOM Orientation and Briefing Programme kicks-off today in Kampala

Kampala, Uganda, 13th February 2016 – As the African Union recognises that protecting the integrity of the electoral process is fundamental to the consolidation of democracy in Uganda, a three-day orientation and briefing programme for observers from 13-15 February 2016 kicks-off today. Forty one (41) short-term observers (STOs), representing institutions such as the Permanent Representatives’ Committee (PRC), the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), Election Management Bodies (EMBs) and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) from the continent, participated in the orientation programme.

After witnessing the first round of presidential elections on 30th December 2015 and the legislatives which were invalidated by the Constitutional Court of transition, the President of the African Union Commission (AU) HE Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has sent a mission to observe the second round of presidential and first round of the legislative elections all scheduled for February 14, 2016.

Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, 6 February 2016:- The official closing ceremony of the 7th PATTEC training course on Planning and Execution of PATTEC Projects took place at Ecole de Lutte Anti-Tsetse (ELAT), Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso on 6th February 2016. The training course had been jointly organized by the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) and the African Union Commission through the PATTEC Coordination Office.
