African Union and partners call for continued shared responsibility and global solidarity to end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030
Abidjan, 08 December 2017- The African Union and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria on Wednesday jointly organised a satellite symposium on domestic health financing. Despite significant progress in responding to the AIDS epidemic Africa confronts the world’s most acute public health threats that remain largely underfunded. After decades of underinvestment the continent need sustained investments in health in a context where international support has levelled due to many competing global priorities.

Nous avons aussi passé en revue l’état de la paix et de la sécurité dans le monde arabo-africain, avec un accent particulier sur les situations en Libye et en Somalie, ainsi que sur les efforts de lutte contre le terrorisme, notamment dans le bassin du Lac et au Sahel.

Le Caire, le 10 décembre 2017: Le Président de la Commission de l’Union africaine, Moussa Faki Mahamat, a rencontré aujourd’hui, au Caire, Ahmed Abou el-Gheit, Secrétaire général de la Ligue des États arabes. Le Président de la Commission était accompagné du vice-Président de la Commission, Kwesi Qwartey, des Commissaires Minata Samate Cessouma, Amira el-Fadil et Sarah Anyang Agbor, chargées respectivement des Affaires politiques, des Affaires sociales et des Ressources humaines, de la Science et de la Technologie, ainsi que de fonctionnaires de la Commission.
Statement on the launch of the campaign in the lead-up to the 70th anniversary of the universal declaration of human rights
Today, the African Union joins the United Nations as it embarks on a year-long campaign in the lead-up to the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 2018. The Universal Declaration, which affirms the universality, inalienability and indivisibility of all fundamental rights and freedoms, remains, to this day, one of the world most influential texts on human rights.

Corruption continues to hinder efforts aimed at promoting democratic governance, socio-economic transformation and peace and security. It creates inequality in our societies and erodes the rule of law.
The scourge of corruption cuts across all our societies and countries. In order to tackle this scourge, we need to redouble our collective efforts aimed at combating it. Collective action is even more urgent as corruption networks are getting increasingly sophisticated.
Statement of the Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union on the Attack on United Nations Peacekeepers and Congolese Soldiers in North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo
Addis Ababa, 8 December 2017: The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union, Moussa Faki Mahamat, has learned with shock of the heinous attack carried out yesterday night against the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) and Congolese soldiers, in the North Kivu province. The attack resulted in the killing of 15 Tanzanian peacekeepers and 5 Congolese soldiers, while 53 members of the Mission were wounded.
