This morning, the Chairperson of the AU Commission, H.E. @ymahmoudali, received letters of credence from H.E. Mrs. Salimata Touray of The Gambia, Mr. Savvas Vladimirou of the Republic of Cyprus, H.E. Mrs. Kristina Radej of Slovenia, and H.E. Mrs. Morakot Janemathukom of Thailand. The envoys conveyed their governments’ firm commitment to deepening cooperation with the African Union.

African Medicines Agency (AMA) to Hold Second Ordinary Session of the Conference of State Parties in Kigali

The African Medicines Agency (AMA) is set to hold its 2nd Ordinary Session of the Conference of State Parties (CoSP). This session takes place following the AMA Treaty's entry into force in 2021 and the official launch of the specialized agency at the new  the headquarters in Kigali, Rwanda.

The Chairperson of the AU Commission H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf received H.E. Alejandro Ives Estivil Castro, Ambassador of Mexico to Ethiopia and Representative to the AU. They discussed deepening Africa–Mexico ties, with shared priorities in agriculture, manufacturing, peacebuilding, & diaspora engagement, drawing on Mexico’s rich experience in the Latin America region and her cooperation with some of the AU member states.

The Chairperson emphasised that as Africa advances in innovation, creativity, & digital trade, WIPO’s support will be essential. He noted that the AU & WIPO can deepen their collaboration to unlock the continent’s full intellectual property potential through capacity building, youth-driven innovation, technology transfer, & value addition in the creative, agribusiness, & cultural industries.

Arusha, 2 June 2025: The African Court on Human & Peoples’ Rights (the Court/AfCHPR) has elected Honourable Justice Modibo Sacko of Mali as its President, and Honourable Lady Justice Bensaoula Chafika of Algeria as the Vice President.

The election took place today during the first day of the Court’s 77th Ordinary Session, being held at its seat in Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania.
