Joint Press Release of the African Union – China Strategic Dialogue
The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, and Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, H.E. Wang Yi, held the 9th China–African Union Strategic Dialogue at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa on 8 January 2026. On the same occasion, the two principals jointly attended the opening ceremony of the 2026 China–Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges.
Joint Statement between the African Union Commission and the United Arab Emirates
On 6 January 2026, the African Union Commission (AUC) and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) held a high-level meeting in Addis Ababa between H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the AUC, and H.E. Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of State.
The meeting built on the first round of political consultations held in Abu Dhabi on 13 September 2025, within the framework of the 2019 Memorandum of Understanding, and reaffirmed the shared commitment of both sides to further strengthening the UAE–AU partnership.

The discussions underscored the depth of the longstanding and cordial relations between Africa & the Sultanate of Oman, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), H.E. Mr. Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, extends his warmest congratulations to the President-elect of the Republic of Guinea, H.E. General Mamadi Doumbouya, on his election with 86.72% of the vote, following the proclamation of the final results by the Supreme Court on January 4, 2026.
The Chairperson of the Commission commends the maturity of the Guinean people, who voted peacefully and calmly, a stance that demonstrates a genuine sense of ownership of the electoral process by the citizens.

The African Union is following with grave concern the recent developments in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, including reports of the abduction of the President of the Republic, Mr. Nicolás Maduro, and military attacks on Venezuelan institutions.
The African Union reaffirms its steadfast commitment to the fundamental principles of international law, including respect for the sovereignty of States, their territorial integrity, and the right of peoples to self-determination, as enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations.

African Union Convenes High-Level Dialogue to Strengthen Africa’s Research, Extension and Development Systems for Resilient Food Systems
The African Union Commission (AUC) has convened a high-level Multistakeholder Workshop on Strengthening Research, Extension and Development (R-E-D) through Subregional Organisations in Kampala, Uganda. The meeting, which was held 22-23 December 2025, brough together continental, regional, and national institutions to advance Africa’s transition toward resilient, digitally enabled, and market-responsive food systems.
