Key stakeholders including church leaders from various denominations and regions, policymakers, civil society organisations, academics and researchers, Donor Agencies, International Development Organisations, have gathered on 15 April 2025, at the Permanent Observer Mission of the African Union to the United Nations in New York, USA, within the framework of the African Union (AU) theme of the year of “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through reparations”.

H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, received in audience Dr. Donald Kaberuka, the African Union High Representative for Financing the Union.

Discussions centered on strengthening the AU Peace Fund to advance Africa’s goals for lasting peace and development. A major focus was the funding mechanisms for the African Union Assistance Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM). Both parties agreed that the AU Commission would mobilize all necessary political efforts to ensure AUSSOM’s successful implementation.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, received H.E. Luisa Fragoso, Ambassador of the Republic of Portugal to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union.
