Addis Ababa, Ethiopia- 4 May 2025: The African Union has learned with deep concern and dismay of the recent violent attack on Port Sudan, a strategic city that has remained one of the few relatively stable zones in the Republic of the Sudan amid ongoing conflict.
The African Union strongly condemns this attack, which represents a dangerous escalation in the ongoing conflict and a direct threat to the lives of civilians, humanitarian access, and regional stability.

This initiative, part of the EU-APSA IV Programme, reflects growing momentum to ensure civil society’s structured involvement in African Union peace and security policy formulation and implementation.

Commending Gabon's peaceful transition to constitutional order; through inclusive dialogue, a national referendum, & credible elections that was observed by the AU, the Chairperson welcomed the lifting of the suspension of Gabon today by the AU Peace and Security Council (PSC) & affirmed Gabon's vital role in continental governance & within AU institutions.
