AU Supports EAC in Institutional Strengthening of the EAC National Electoral Commissions Forum
Nairobi, 6 March 2019: The Department of Political Affairs (DPA) of the African Union Commission (AUC) in collaboration with the East African Community (EAC) has convened a strategic meeting of senior officials of the EAC Forum of National Electoral Commissions from 6 to 8 March 2019 in Nairobi, Kenya. The strategic meeting aims at strengthening the capacity of the EAC National Electoral Commissions Forum order to be more effective and responsive to the needs of the Election Management Bodies (EAC) in the EAC Partner States.
African Union Continental Consultation on Combatting Online Child Sexual Exploitation
Addis Ababa, March 06 2019: The African Union’s First Continental Consultation on combatting Online Child Sexual Exploitation (OCSE) opened on 6 March 2019 at the African Union Conference Centre under the theme “Protecting Children from Abuse in the Digital world”.
The three day conference is part of a new project run by the Department of Social to “strengthen regional and national capacity and action against OCSE in Africa” which is being implemented with financial support from the UK Home Office through the Commonwealth Grant.
African Union Commemorates the Africa Healthy Lifestyle Day 2019 Healthy Lifestyle Prolongs Life
Addis Ababa, March 07 2019: The African Union (AU) Medical Services Directorate commemorated the Africa Healthy Lifestyle Day today at the African Union Commission (AUC) Headquarters. The activities were highly attended by AU Staff as well as Ambassadors. The Day began by an active sensitization exercise and distribution of flyers at the AU the AU main gate.
Later on, presentations on healthy lifestyle were delivered followed by discussion and closing remarks for the commemoration of the Africa Healthy Lifestyle Day.
Statement by the Chairperson of the Commission on the Implementation of the Political Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation in the Central African Republic
Addis Ababa, 5 March 2019: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, continues to monitor closely the implementation of the Political Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation in the Central African Republic, signed in Bangui, on 6 February 2019.
The Chairperson of the Commission takes note of the Cabinet reshuffle carried out by President Faustin Archange Touadera on 3 March 2019, and stresses that this is a step towards inclusive and representative governance in the Central African Republic, as provided for in the Agreement.

Statement by the Chairperson of the Commission on Elections in Senegal
Addis Ababa, 5 March 2019: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, welcomes the successful presidential election of 24 February 2019 in Senegal. He particularly congratulates the candidates and the people of Senegal who, through their exemplary and peaceful mobilization, have once again demonstrated their commitment to democracy, peace and stability. He encourages them to persevere in their efforts, including by settling all matters relating to the electoral process through peaceful means and the use of the instruments provided for that purpose.
ECOSOCC Communique on the Escalated Call for removal of Economic Sanctions on the Republic of Zimbabwe
PREAMBLE
We members of Southern African civil society convened under the AU ECOSOCC banner.
Mindful of the plight of the nation of Zimbabwe as a result of sanctions imposed on them by the international community.
Noting the impact of these sanctions on the economic and social configuration of the Southern African region in particular, and the African continent at large.
Hopeful of a positive outcome of a Zimbabwe free of sanctions and empowered by committed citizenry. Make the following contemplations towards the escalation of a removal of sanctions.
