CIDO and the UNOHCHR held a joint Continental Symposium on the Decade for People of African Descent in Accra, Ghana.
18 – 20 September 2018 – Accra, Ghana – The directorate of the Citizens and Diaspora organizations (CIDO) of the African Union Commission and the United Nations Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNOHCHR met in Accra, Ghana alongside a number of Member states, Civil society organizations and Diaspora organizations, to celebrate the Decade for People of African Descent.

Under the leadership of H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Turkey and H.E. Moussa Faki, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, the Second Africa-Turkey Economic and Business Forum was held in Istanbul, Turkey on 10-11 October 2018.
The Forum was organized by the African Union Commission and the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Turkey in cooperation with the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey (DEIK).

03 – 05 October 2018 – Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The African Union Citizens and Diaspora Directorate (AUC-CIDO) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH organized the 2nd Intercontinental Youth Forum in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The event brought together 39 youth from 27 countries across Africa and Europe for three days of fruitful discussions and interactive sessions.

Addis Ababa, 12 October 2018: The African Union Commission Chairperson, Moussa Faki Mahamat, welcomes the unanimous election of Louise Mushikiwabo, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Rwanda, as the new Secretary-General of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF), at the 17th OIF Summit, which concludes today in Yerevan, Armenia. He warmly congratulated Mrs Mushikiwabo, and notes that her selection is an international recognition of her outstanding qualities and rich experience, as well as of her commitment to multilateral cooperation.
Statement by the Chairperson of the Commission on the situation in Comoros
Addis Ababa, 16 October 2018: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, deplores the suspension, since 2 October 2018, of the inter-Comorian dialogue, which began on 14 September 2018 under the facilitation of the African Union High Representative Ramtane Lamamra. He notes the deterioration of the political environment as a result of certain measures, particularly the lifting, on 3 October 2018, of the parliamentary immunity of three opposition members, some of whom were part of the opposition delegation to the inter-Comorian dialogue.

Addis Ababa, 12 October 2018: On the margins of the 17th Summit of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF), which concluded today in Erevan, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, had a number of consultations with Heads of State participating in the Summit. He met with Presidents Denis Sassou Nguesso of the Republic of Congo, who chairs the African Union High Level Committee on Libya, Idriss Deby Itno of Chad and Faustin-Archange Touadéra of the Central African Republic, as well as with President Emmanuel Macron of France.
Statement of the Chairperson of the Commission on the appointment of a parity Government in Ethiopia
Addis Ababa, 17 October 2018: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, congratulates Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia for appointing a cabinet marked by gender parity, with 10 women and 10 men. Chairperson Faki looks forward to other similar bold initiatives on the continent, as part of Agenda 2063. Yesterday’s decision by the Prime Minister sets a major milestone in Africa’s efforts towards gender equality and women’s empowerment, in particular women’s access to high level political decision-making positions.
