During the last decade, Africa as a continent witnessed strong economic and social gains due mainly to improved macroeconomic management at country level and favorable conditions in the global market. The smooth continuation of these economic and social gains has been seriously threatened by the global financial crisis that hit the world in 2008, indirectly impacting African economies through such channels as the decline in global demand and in financing inflows. Many African economies have struggled to withstand the impacts of the crisis and avoid further decline in their economies.

The Directorate of Information and Communication (DIC) of the African Union announces that the online accreditation process for the coverage of the 28th   African Union (AU) Summit, scheduled for 22 to 31 January 2017 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia  has been launched on the AU website: www.au.int

AUC signs MOU with Book of African Records for The African Factbook project

17 December 2016- The African Union Commission, led by Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, and the Book of African Records, have signed an MoU for the research and production of a publication titled The African Factbook. The agreement was signed at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa on 8 December by Mrs Leslie Richer, the AUC Director for Information and Communication and Ambassador Kwame Muzawazi, the founder and editor-in-chief of the Book of African Records.
