Uganda Decides: The AU Short Term Observers to Uganda ready for deployment
Kampala, Uganda, 15th February 2016–The AU Short Term Observers will be deployed on 16th February 2016 to their assigned provinces with hand-held computer tablets which will enable them to collect and transmit observation data in real-time. The deployment of observers follows a three-day training on the African Union observation methodology and briefing, which took place from 13-15 February 2016. On ground in their areas of deployment, observers will be expected to consult with the Electoral Commission, the Police, and other relevant stakeholders.

President John Mahama Launches the African Union Campaign to End Child Marriage in Ghana
Accra, Ghana, 10 February 2016 – In an effort to strengthen and accelerate national consciousness and action towards ending child marriage, the Government of the Republic of Ghana has now launched the AU Campaign to End Child Marriage in Africa. In his keynote address, Mr. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, noted that, “Child marriage is the most obnoxious practice of the 21st century and a total violation of the rights of children, especially the girl-child”.
AU Commission Chairperson Calls for Smooth and Peaceful Elections Ahead of Car Presidential Run-Off and Re-Run of Legislative Elections
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – 13 February 2016: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma has called for smooth and peaceful proceedings in the upcoming Presidential run-off and legislative elections in the Central African Republic (CAR). She welcomed the calm atmosphere under which the first round of general elections took place on 30 December 2015, “despite evident organizational and security challenges”.
H.E. Jean Eyeghé Ndong, Former Prime Minister of the Republic of Gabon to lead the African Union (AU) Election Mission to the 2016 General Elections in Niger
Niamey, 14 February 2016: Following the invitation by the Government of the Republic of Niger, the Chairperson of the AUC has decided to deploy an Electoral Observation Mission (AUEOM) to the 2016 Parliamentary and Presidential Elections in that country. The mission will be led by His Excellency Jean Eyeghé Ndong, Former Prime Minister of the Republic of Gabon.
