H.E President William Samoei Ruto (PhD), President of the Republic of Kenya and the African Union Champion on Institutional Reform. H.E. Ruto was appointed during the 37th Assembly of Heads of State and Government in February 2024 to champion the AU Institutional Reform process taking over from the H.E Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda who led the implementation of the reform process since 2016.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - 24 February, 2016 - The 1st Meeting of the Continental Free Trade Area Negotiating Forum (CFTA-NF), kicked off today at the African Union Commission (AUC) Headquarters in Addis Ababa. During the next three days, Member States will consider the post launch preparatory issues and essential process issues and technical documents that will enable the efficient conduct of the negotiations. The Meeting will consider and adopt the Rules of Procedure for the CFTA Negotiating Forum.

The Stakeholders’ dialogue workshop was co-organized by the African Union Commission (AUC) and the European Union (EU), through its Technical Assistance Facility for the“Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL), Eastern and Southern Africa” initiative.
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia 24 February 2016 – African leaders, including ministers of health, finance, and other line ministries, have gathered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for the Ministerial Conference on Immunization in Africa – the first-ever ministerial-level convening with a singular focus on ensuring that people across the continent can get access to life-saving vaccines.
African Heads of States and Government have declared 2016 as the African Year of Human Rights with Particular Focus on the Rights of Women. The declaration of 2016 as the African Year of Human Rights provides an opportunity for Africans to consolidate the gains already made over the years, ensure better coordination of human rights bodies on the continent, and move towards the establishment of a true human rights culture on the continent. Project 2016 will mark, commemorate and celebrate the significant milestones in Africa’s continental human rights progression.
