PAU introduces mechanisms on Communications and Gender Mainstreaming

Addis Ababa, 10 December 2015: More than fifty officials of the African Union Commission, Pan African University, AU Member State Embassies in Addis Ababa, and PAU partners, have concluded two workshops held at the AUC headquarters in Addis Ababa. The workshops were convened to validate the University’s communications strategy and finalize a study on gender mainstreaming at PAU.

The 1st Meeting of the African Union Customs Experts on the Development of a Trade Facilitation Strategy for Africa, commenced today in Libreville. The Meeting is organized in line with the Action Plan for Boosting Intra-African Trade (BIAT), and fast tracking the establishment of the Continental Free Trade Area (CFTA) by 2017 and also taking into account the conclusions of the 9th World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Conference held in Bali, Indonesia in December 2013.

Addis Ababa, 9 December 2015- In January 2015, the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) endorsed the establishment of a public health institute dedicated to the African continent. The purpose of this new organization, known as the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), is to reduce sickness and death by improving prevention, detection, and response to public health threats.

Paris, France, 09 December 2015- The Africa Renewable Energy Initiative was launched at a Session during the High-Level Meeting on “Lima-Paris Action Agenda: Focus on Energy” on 07 December, 2015 at the COP21. The Africa Renewable Energy Initiative (AREI) aims to add an additional 10 GW and 300 GW of renewable energy capacity to the African energy sector by 2020 and 2030, respectively, and is endorsed and supported by the Governments of France, Germany, U.S., and Canada.

The inaugural meeting of the Political Heads of the African Governance Architecture (AGA) and Platform took place in Kigali, Rwanda from December 9-10, 2015. This meeting followed the Fourth High Level Dialogue on Democracy, Governance and Human Rights focusing on 'Women's Equal Participation and Leadership in Political Parties' that took place from December 7-8, 2015.

The political meeting was opened by the Commissioner for Political Affairs, Dr. Aisha Abdullahi and the Chair of the AU Permanent Representative Committee Amb. Albert Chimbindi.

Stepping Stones: ECOSOCC Secretariat holds high-level consultations with China NGO Network for International Exchanges (CNIE)

On 27 November 2015, the Director of CIDO and Head of the AU ECOSOCC Secretariat, Dr. Jinmi Adisa met with a high-level delegation from the China NGO Network for International Exchanges (CNIE), led by Mr. Shi Guohi, Deputy Secretary-General of CNIE.
The meeting was held as a follow-up to the 4th China-Africa People’s Forum which took place on 26 August 2015 in Yiwu, China, under the formal auspices of CNIE and AU ECOSOCC.
The objective of the meeting was therefore to initiate planning for the implementation of the Forum’s outcomes over the next year 3-year period.
