On the sidelines of the International Society of Substance Use Professionals (ISSUP) conference “Uniting the Global Community to Face the Challenge of Addiction”, which kicked off on Thursday, 12 May 2022 in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the African Union has launched the Global Dialogue on Drug Demand Reduction between Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean as testimony of collective efforts to resolve concerted action to common problems.

Addis Ababa, 12 May 2022: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, has learned with great alarm of the terrorist attack that took place on 11 May, against a military post of the Togolese armed forces, in the locality of Kpékpakandi, in northern Togo, and which left 8 people dead and 13 injured.

The launch of the first pilot program series on the use of the State Parties Assessment Tool (SPAT) on the implementation and reporting to the AU Charter on Public Service kicks off today, 10 May 2022 in Dar Es Salaam, United Republic of Tanzania.

This capacity building aligns with the declaration of the Second Conference of State Parties to the Charter held on 29 April 2021 (Para 3) ‘inviting Tanzania, South Africa, Kenya, Namibia and Cameroun to pilot the operationalization of the SPAT’.
