Addis Ababa, 4 November 2020: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat wishes to congratulates H.E. Dr John Pombe Magufuli on his re-election as the President of the United Republic of Tanzania following the presidential, parliamentary and local council elections held on 28 October 2020.

He commends the people and all electoral stakeholders, Political Parties and Candidates, the Media and Civil Society Organisations for the peaceful conduct of the elections.

Postponement of Weekly Press Briefing on Coronavirus Disease Outbreak

In continuation of its efforts to support countries put up an effective response to the COVID-19 outbreak, Dr John Nkengasong, Director of Africa CDC, is out on field visit to member states to assess the situation of COVID-19 on the continent.

In view of the aforementioned, Africa CDC’s weekly engagement with members of the media to share updates on COVID-19 response activities in Africa will not hold for this week.

The weekly press briefing will resume later this month when the director has ended his tour, and you are encouraged to join us then.

3 November 2020, Addis Ababa: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat strongly condemns the killing of innocent civilians following inter-communal violence in Ethiopia.

The Chairperson extends his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wishes speedy recovery to the wounded. He calls on national authorities to ensure that the perpetrators of these heinous crimes are found and held accountable.
