My fellow Africans! I am pleased to issue this press briefing at the launch of the Inaugural Africa Report on Disaster Risk Reduction. As you might be aware, disasters have become a recurrent phenomenon in Africa and the Africa Union wants to ensure that countries prepared to minimize the losses from these natural hazards hence the DRR Unit embarked on this work. This is the first report since the adoption of the Programme of Action for implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 by the African Union.

Weekly Press Briefing on Coronavirus Disease Outbreak

WHAT: Africa CDC weekly engagement with the media to provide critical update on the coordinated efforts by African Union Member States to implement the joint continental strategy on COVID-19. It also highlights key steps taken to support the PACT initiative across countries and other countermeasures by Africa CDC and other partners in response to the pandemic to minimize fatality due to the disease in Africa.

African Union Receives Donation of Medical Supplies from Government of Canada to Enhance COVID-19 Response
ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA, 30 JULY 2020. The African Union Commission has received a consignment of medical supplies from the Government of the Republic Canada in support of the continent’s fight against the deadly Coronavirus (COVID-19) disease.
The donation which contains 400,000 pieces of N95 masks was delievered to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) to boost its distribution of essential Infection Prevention and Control materials to AU member states for the COVID19 response.

African Union Audit Recommendations Tracking System (ARTS) Goes Digital
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia: 29 July 2020: The African Union is launching its Audit Recommendations Tracking System (ARTS) digital platform.
ARTS is a digital platform that would fast-track implementation of all audit recommendations, enhance the overall effectiveness and efficiency of management planning, monitoring and reporting on actions taken on AU audit recommendations.
The system is user-friendly and can be easily accessed from any location by authorized users with access to the internet.
