Mekelle to host Ministerial Retreat of the Executive Council

Agenda 2063 is the blueprint and master plan for transforming Africa into the global powerhouse of the future. It is the strategic framework for delivering on Africa’s goal for inclusive and sustainable development and is a concrete manifestation of the pan-African drive for unity, self-determination, freedom, progress and collective prosperity pursued under Pan-Africanism and African Renaissance.

H.E President William Samoei Ruto (PhD), President of the Republic of Kenya and the African Union Champion on Institutional Reform. H.E. Ruto was appointed during the 37th Assembly of Heads of State and Government in February 2024 to champion the AU Institutional Reform process taking over from the H.E Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda who led the implementation of the reform process since 2016.

Mekelle to host Ministerial Retreat of the Executive Council
Mekelle– Ethiopia, 24th January 2016: Members of African Union (AU) Executive Council converged in the Tigray region of Mekelle, on 24 January 2016, within the framework of their third Ministerial Retreat, holding under the theme: “Implementation of Agenda 2063”. The Ministerial Retreat was chaired by Hon. Simbarashe S. Mumbengegwi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Zimbabwe and Chairperson of the Executive Council, in the presence of H.E. Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E Mr. Erastus Mwencha, Deputy Chairperson of the AUC. Hon.

The 28th Ordinary Session of the African Union Executive Council Positions Agenda 2063 as key element of discussion
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 27th January 2016: The African Union (AU) Executive Council has emphasized the importance of upholding human rights especially women’s rights in Africa for an integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa under the Agenda 2063 framework.
Addis Ababa, 21 January 2016 - Two young children SEBASTIÃO NHUMBWAVALI and WALIYAT TAJUDEEN aroused the conscience of participants during the 8th Gender Pre-Summit held on 20 January 2016 at the AU Headquarters as they recite a poem with strong messages to the AU Commission, calling on the women leaders and policy makers to help them fully contribute to the realization of Agenda 2063. The two children were coached in this exercise by Mr. Lukman Olawale Jaji and Mr. Emmanuel Shimbid, both staff working with the AUC.
Addis Ababa, 21 January 2014- The African Union Commission (AUC) awarded prices to two female top African scientists: Prof. Merzouk Hafida from Algeria representing the North region and Prof. Yalemtsehay Mekonnen from Ethiopia, representing the East region, for their scientific achievements and valuable discoveries and findings that has contributed to the development agenda of the Continent.
