32nd ORDINARY SESSION OF THE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL TO OFFICIAL OPEN ON THURSDAY 25 JANUARY

Official Opening of the Executive Council:
The Executive Council will officially open on 25 January 2018, in the presence of the leadership and officials of the AU Commission. The opening ceremony will include among others, a speech by the Chairperson of the Executive Council, and a welcome remark by the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, among others, followed by a group photo of the Ministers with the Members of the Commission.
Objective: The Executive Council will consider the draft agenda including the draft decisions and declarations of the Assembly with appropriate recommendations for consideration by the Assembly of the AU Heads of State and Government, scheduled to take place from 28-29 January 2018.
Participants: The Executive Council meeting will bring together all the Ministers of the 55 African Union Member States based in Addis Ababa, as well as AU officials.
For two days, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs/External Relations and other ministers or authorities duly designated will convene to deliberate on the different items on their agenda including the consideration of the report of the Permanent Representatives’ Committee (PRC); the Annual report of the Chairperson of the Commission for the period January to December 2017and the report on the implementation of the Assembly Declaration including that on the Solemn Commitment on the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM); the implementation Agenda 2063; the African Candidatures in the International System; the progress report on the International Criminal Court (ICC) among others.
High moments during the Executive Council will feature the election and appointment of the ten (10) members of the Peace and Security Council; and that of one (1) Member of the Advisory Board on Corruption; and election of two (2) Members of the Pan-African University Council.
The meeting of the Executive Council will officially end on Friday 26 January 2018.
Journalists are invited to cover the official opening and closing ceremonies of the 32nd Ordinary Session of the Executive, on 25 and 26 January 2018. They are also invited to cover the photo session immediately after the opening of the Executive Council.
