        BACKGROUND INFORMATION

        The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) Regional Collaborating Centres (RCC) were established to coordinate all regional public health initiatives in Member States, in consultation with Africa CDC headquarters. Specifically, to:
        a. Support Member States in implementing the strategic objectives of the five functional pillars of Africa CDC including cross cutting areas of workforce, partnerships, innovation, finances and leadership and management.

        b. Strengthen core capacities around surveillance, laboratory systems and networks, information systems, emergency preparedness and response, and public health research.

        c. Strengthen collaborations among Member States in emergencies, disease outbreaks, and in responding to epidemic and pandemic infectious diseases and non-communicable diseases.

        d. Train public health personnel in Member States to improve capacity to prepare for and respond to public health threats

        The Deputy Director of Africa CDC, Dr. Ahmed E. Ogwell OUMA will be in Zambia on a 3-days work visit from the 7th to 9th of December 2020. During this visit, he will meet with the officials of the Government of the Republic of Zambia to express appreciation for hosting the Africa CDC Southern Africa Regional Collaborating Centre (SA-RCC). He will also meet with various stakeholders to provide updates on Africa CDC’s strategic vision for the region as well as explore areas of strategic partnerships and discus efforts being undertaken to support member states in preparing for the anticipated second wave of COVID-19 and Africa CDC’s strategy to support the roll out of the COVID-19 vaccine.
