H.E. Victor Harison, from Madagascar, was elected the new Commissioner for Economic Affairs of the African Union Commission. H.E. Harison is a Professor with over thirty-four (34) years of experience in academia, with specialty in Mathematics, Project Management, Business Ethics and Leadership from the University of Antananarivo, Madagascar.
Structure
The Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) promotes the work of the AU in the area of economic integration and private sector development and engagement.
Implements programs that aim to create strategic partnerships with the private sector.
Activities
Labour migration is continuously becoming a key priority area of concern amongst African countries. Socio-economic status, poverty, political, security, environmental as well as global structural causes all prompt migration within and from Africa, affecting the national and regional labour markets.
The Committee of Experts Retreat that commenced today, ahead of the Ministerial Meeting of Finance Ministers (F15), deliberated on a range of priority financial issues of the African Union for two days.
The African Union Commission (AUC) has embarked on sensitization activities on the new African Multidimensional Regional Integration Index (AMRII), a monitoring and evaluation tool to assess the status of the integration in the continent.
