Technical Experts of African Union Member States meet to Develop Plan of Action on Drug Control and Crime Prevention (2026-2030)
The African Union convened a three-day continental technical experts’ meeting to develop a new continental strategic framework and action plan on drug control and crime prevention in Maputo, Mozambique from 18th to 20th November, 2025. This meeting follows the backdrop of a comprehensive end-of-term evaluation of progress by Member States in implementing the nine strategic pillars of the African Union Plan of Action on Drug Control and Crime Prevention (2019 - 2025).

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, received H.E. George Orina, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kenya to the African Union, and H.E. Alexis Lamek, Ambassador of France to African Union. The exchange focused on preparations for the Africa–France Summit “Africa Forward”, to be co-hosted by Kenya and France and scheduled to take place in Nairobi in 2026, during which the two ambassadors conveyed the invitation to the Chairperson.

The Chairperson commended Ambassador Orina’s steadfast engagement in AU deliberations, notably his leadership as Chair of the PRC Subcommittee on Budgetary, Financial and Administrative Matters, and Kenya’s sustained contributions to advancing institutional reform, effective governance, and the vision of a peaceful, integrated and prosperous Africa.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, strongly condemns the deadly drone attack targeting the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) logistics peacekeeping base in Kadugli, Sudan, which resulted in the loss of lives and injuries among Bangladeshi peacekeeping personnel. This reprehensible act constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law and an attack on efforts to promote peace and stability in Sudan.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, strongly condemns the heinous terrorist attack targeting a Jewish community in Sydney, Australia, which has resulted in the tragic loss of at least 12 innocent lives. This act of terror constitutes an assault on humanity and the shared values of peace, tolerance, and coexistence.
