H.E President William Samoei Ruto (PhD), President of the Republic of Kenya and the African Union Champion on Institutional Reform. H.E. Ruto was appointed during the 37th Assembly of Heads of State and Government in February 2024 to champion the AU Institutional Reform process taking over from the H.E Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda who led the implementation of the reform process since 2016.

The African Union (AU) on Friday, 5 September 2025, welcomed the deposition of the instruments of ratification of the African Road Safety Charter by the Republic of Sierra Leone, marking a significant step forward in Africa’s collective commitment to reducing road crashes and fatalities.

H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, expresses deep concern over the reported Israeli strike in Doha, Qatar, warning that the attack risks endangering an already fragile situation in the Middle East.
The Chairperson reaffirmed the AU’s call for restraint, respect for sovereignty, and the protection of civilians.
He further noted Qatar’s longstanding role in peace, mediation, and diplomacy, underscoring the urgent need for renewed dialogue towards a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.

The African Union Commission (AUC) convened a three-day Continental Consultation on Synthetic Drug Supply Reduction under the theme: “Strengthening efforts towards addressing drug trafficking and advancing crime prevention, criminal justice and rule of law in Africa.” The consultation which is being held in Gaborone from 25 – 27 August, 2025, addresses the rising proliferation of synthetic drugs across Africa, including cannabis, kush, methamphetamine, tramadol and other over-the-counter substances, which increasingly impact youth, public health, governance, and social stability.
The 2nd Africa-CARICOM Summit has brought together African nations, Caribbean states, and the global African diaspora to strengthen unity, deepen integration, and jointly pursue reparations and reparatory justice through a comprehensive transcontinental partnership framework, under the theme: “Transcontinental Partnership in Pursuit of Reparatory Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations.”
