African Union Headquarters; 27th November 2018: The African Union has strengthened its sanctions regime to ensure its 55 member states meet their financial obligations to the Union in time. In the just concluded Extraordinary summit on institutional reforms in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the Assembly of Heads of State and Government adopted stringent measures for member states who do not meet their financial obligations in time.

Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, November 26, 2018: The African Union (AU) High Representative for Infrastructure Development in Africa, Honorable Raila Odinga, has urged African countries to treat the implementation of Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) as a matter of emergency.

Honarable Odinga made the remark on Monday at a Parallel Session on SAATM on the sidelines of the PIDA Week 2018 taking place in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe from November 26 to 29, 2018.

AU, EU and UN discuss sustainable reintegration of migrants

Addis Ababa, 27 - 28 November 2018- The African Union organised a joint African Union- European Union Technical Workshop on Sustainable Reintegration in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with the support of the International Organization for Migration. Held in the context of the AU-EU-UN Taskforce on the Situation of Migrants Libya, the workshop exchanged good practices, identified challenges and lessons learned, and looked at what more can be done to achieve sustainable reintegration of migrants returning from various regions.

Announcement of the 32nd Ordinary Summit of the African Union

The 32nd Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) will take place from 15 January to 11 February 2019, under the theme “Refugees, Returnees and Internally Displaced Persons: Towards Durable Solutions to Forced Displacement in Africa”.

The Summit will be held at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia as follows:

15 – 16 January 2019: 37th Ordinary Session of the Permanent Representatives’ Committee (PRC).

07 – 08 February 2019: 34th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council (Ministerial)
