It is the strategic framework for delivering on Africa’s goal for inclusive and sustainable development and is a concrete manifestation of the pan-African drive for unity, self-determination, freedom, progress and collective prosperity pursued under Pan-Africanism and African Renaissance.

H.E President William Samoei Ruto (PhD), President of the Republic of Kenya and the African Union Champion on Institutional Reform. H.E. Ruto was appointed during the 37th Assembly of Heads of State and Government in February 2024 to champion the AU Institutional Reform process taking over from the H.E Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda who led the implementation of the reform process since 2016.

25 January 2023, Addis Ababa: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, expresses his shock at the murder of Thulani Maseko, a human rights lawyer, in the Kingdom of Eswatini.
In this regard, the Chairperson fully supports the statement of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Organ Troika, including the call to the Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini to conduct a full and transparent investigation into the brutal killing.

The African Union Commission (AUC) Women, Youth and Gender Directorate together with the Gender, Peace and Security Programme has concluded a technical visit to Burundi as part of the advocacy mission to assist AU member states in the ratification, domestication, and implementation of the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa also popularly known as Maputo Protocol.

Moussa Faki Mahamat, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas, as the African Union High Representative for Silencing the Guns. The appointment is pursuant to the AU’s objective to end all conflicts, gender-based violence, terrorism and prevent genocide in the continent by 2030.

Dr Ibrahim Assane Mayaki, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Niger and former CEO of the AUDA-NEPAD, as the African Union Special Envoy for Food Systems.














18 January 2023, Addis Ababa: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat condemns in the strongest terms, the abduction of more than 50 women and girls on 12 and 13 January 2023 in the Arbinda area in Burkina Faso's northern Sahel Region, by unidentified armed men.
The Chairperson calls for the immediate release of the abducted women and girls, including their safe return to their families and communities. The Chairperson further urges the national authorities to spare no efforts in bringing to justice the perpetrators of this heinous crime.
The 45th Ordinary Session of the Permanent Representatives’ Committee (PRC) kicked off on 16 January 2023, in preparation for the 42nd Ordinary Session of the Executive Council and the 36th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union (AU) to be held from the 15-19 January 2023.
