This serves to inform all members of the media that the Africa CDC weekly press briefing to share updates on COVID-19 response in Africa will NOT hold for this week, as the director, Dr John Nkengasong is on an official visit to the Kingdom of Morocco.

Addis Ababa, 16 August 2021: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat warmly congratulates H.E. Hakainde Hichilema upon his election as President-Elect of the Republic of Zambia following the successful conduct of General Elections held on 12 August 2021.

The Chairperson also commends outgoing President H.E. Edgar Lungu for his tenure and demonstrating strong leadership and statesmanship through his gracious acceptance of the outcome of the elections.

The Republic of Benin Deposits the Instrument of Ratification of the African Medicines Agency (AMA)

12 August 2021. The Republic of Benin becomes the tenth (10th) Member State to deposit the instrument of ratification of the African Medicines Agency (AMA) to the Commission of the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Republic of Benin ratified the Treaty for the establishment of AMA on 30 June 2021 in Cotonou, Benin.
