H.E President William Samoei Ruto (PhD), President of the Republic of Kenya and the African Union Champion on Institutional Reform. H.E. Ruto was appointed during the 37th Assembly of Heads of State and Government in February 2024 to champion the AU Institutional Reform process taking over from the H.E Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda who led the implementation of the reform process since 2016.

Addis Ababa, 5th September, 2022: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E Moussa Faki Mahamat warmly congratulates H.E William Kipchirchir Samoei Arap Ruto upon his election as the President-elect of the Republic of Kenya following the successful conduct of General Elections on 9th August, 2022 and the unanimous judicial confirmation of the election outcome.
The Chairperson also commends the outgoing President H.E Uhuru Kenyatta for his strong and impactful leadership during his tenure of office.
The President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, H.E. Sahle-Work Zewde, has challenged African women and girls to take up positions of leadership to steer the transformation of the continent.
The high-level consultation between the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) and Speakers of Regional and National Parliaments has concluded with calls for strengthening links through continental solidarity and support for the implementation of the continent's flagship development blueprint, the Agenda 2063. The meeting took place in Midrand, South Africa on the sidelines of the Sitting of the PAP Committees under the African Union (AU) theme of the year 2022 as the year of Nutrition.
