Ladies and Gentlemen,

Thank you for this renewed opportunity to address you since the Spring Meetings.

African countries through a coordinated Continental strategy have shown singular resilience.

But this resilience is matched by that of the pandemic, taking its toll on our health, livelihoods and economies.

As we continue to respond to the pandemic and its socio-economic impacts, Africa is also working to ensure access to vaccines for at least 60% of our populations, as soon as they become available on the market.

8 October 2020, Addis Ababa : The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, wishes to congratulate Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala of Nigeria on her selection, together with Yoo Myung-hee of the Republic of Korea, to the third and final round of consultations to select the next Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The Chairperson also wishes to commend the strong calibre of the three African candidates that participated in the selection process, leveraging world class African expertise on the world stage.
