Expo 2020 Dubai Postponed due to the Global Pandemic

Addis Ababa, 1 June 2020 – The African Union takes note of the official announcement by the General Assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) to approve the one-year postponement of the Expo 2020 Dubai due to COVID-19 and maintain the name “Expo 2020 Dubai”, which the decision on a change of dates was made after reaching the required two-thirds majority vote of BIE member states, as stipulated by article 28 of the 1928 Paris Convention.

WHAT:   The Africa CDC weekly press briefing on COVID-19 for this week will hold on its usual schedule. This week’s briefing will feature the roll out of the Partnership to Accelerate COVID-19 Testing, (PACT) initiative by H.E. Amira Elfadil Mohammed, Commissioner for Social Affairs of the African Union Commission. There will also be the regular epidemiological situation update from Member States and new actions taken by Africa CDC and other partners to support African Union Member States in responding to the outbreak.

The meeting will be hosted by H.E. Amb. Minata Samate Cessouma, the Commissioner for Political Affairs, African Union Commission and will be organized in collaboration with the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation (CSVR).

ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA, 2 JUNE 2020. The Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) declared a new outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) on 31 May 2020 in Mbandaka, the country’s northwest Équateur Province. The declaration followed notification by the Équateur provincial health authorities of community deaths on 23 and 30 May 2020.
