AFCON 2016: TOGETHER AGAINST THE MARRIAGE OF YOUNG GIRLS

Yaoundé, November 28, 2016 – The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Cameroon, the African Union (AU), Powerplay and the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) have jointly launched the “Together against the marriage of young girls” campaign with the view to eradicate child marriages on the continent.

Yaounde 24 November 2016 - The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), H.E. Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma paid a brief working visit to Cameroon on 24th November 2016. The AUC and her delegation arrived the Yaounde Nsimalen International airport in the early hours of 24 November 2016. Her visit is in honour of an invitation by the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF), requesting her presence for the 10th edition of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations that kicked off on November 19 in Cameroon.

Yaoundé, November 17, 2016 – The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Cameroon, African Union (AU), Powerplay and the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) have jointly launched the “Together against the marriage of young girls” campaign towards abandoning child marriages on the continent. Statistics have shown that one in five girls (representing 20%) aged 15-19 in Cameroon is married, and globally, about 15 million young girls are forced into marriages before their 18th birthday.

Addis Ababa, 15 November 2016 – A strong delegation from the African Union Commission (AUC) is expected to take active part at  the 10th Africa Women Cup of Nations to be held in Yaoundé, capital city of Cameroon from 19th November to 3rd December 2016.The biennial International Football Championship organized by the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) for the women’s national teams of Africa in partnership with the AUC, will bring together a total of eight teams.
