African Union Youth Sector Response to COVID-19

The African Union Commission (AUC), Human Resources, Science, and Technology (HRST) Department, is working on practical responses to ensure young Africans are taking personal responsibility to stay safe and ensure others do too during the Coronavirus pandemic. The response takes on a 3 x 4 model which focuses on reducing the health risk on young Africans, minimizing the impact of Covid-19 on their lives and mobilizing youth to be responders to Covid-19. The tenets of the response will be carried out through engagement, communications campaigns, innovation and partnerships.

WHAT: The novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has spread to almost all countries and claimed more than 240,000 lives worldwide. Nearly 50,000 cases have been reported in 53 African countries, with over 1,900 deaths. Africa CDC is supporting African Union Member States in responding to the outbreak. This briefing will provide updated information from Member States and new actions taken by Africa CDC and other partners in respond to the pandemic.

African Union to distribute more COVID19 supplies to its member states after receiving the third consignment from the Jack Ma Foundation

The 55 member states of the African Union will soon receive further medical supplies for their COVID19 response, after the arrival in Addis Ababa today, of the third batch from the Jack Ma Foundation.

The supplies, weighing 125 tonnes, consist of 4.6 million single use surgical masks, 500 000 civilian use KN95 masks: 100 000 medical grade N95 masks: 200,000 pieces of protective clothing: 200,000 face shields: 2,000 thermometer guns: 500,000 medical gloves: 300 ventilators: 500,000 each of swabs, extraction and detection tests: and 100 infrared thermo detection machines.

Receiving of 3rd consignment of Medical Supplies from Jack Ma Foundation

INVITATION TO REPRESENTATIVES OF THE MEDIA

WHAT: The African Union through Africa CDC will this Wednesday receive a 3rd consignment of the Jack Ma donation, which it will distribute to all 55 African Union member states for their COVID19 response.
This 3rd donation includes 4,6m masks, 500k swabs & test kits, 300 ventilators, 200k PPEs, 200k face shields, 2k thermal scanners, 100 body temperature scanners and 500k pairs of hand gloves. These vital supplies will enhance Africa CDC’s strategic stockpile to assist member states in the COVID-19 response.
