H.E President William Samoei Ruto (PhD), President of the Republic of Kenya and the African Union Champion on Institutional Reform. H.E. Ruto was appointed during the 37th Assembly of Heads of State and Government in February 2024 to champion the AU Institutional Reform process taking over from the H.E Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda who led the implementation of the reform process since 2016.

From 16-18 March 2026, the African Union’s Pan-African Institute of Education for Development (AU-IPED) will lead a technical workshop to Juba, South Sudan, to support the strengthening of the country’s Education Management Information System (EMIS).

From 5 to 6 May 2025, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission undertook an official visit to Juba, in close coordination with IGAD, to engage with South Sudanese authorities and key stakeholders on the evolving political and security situation and the status of the peace process.

President Salva Kiir Mayardit at the State House this afternoon. During his visit, he also held discussions with H.E. Amb. Monday Simaya Kumba, Minister of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation, & senior members of the Cabinet.
The African Union Commission through the AGA-APSA Secretariat, launched a National of Trainers’ programme on youth participation in political and electoral processes in Juba, Republic of South Sudan from 29 to 31 May 2023.
According to Honorable Aya Benjamin Warille, South Sudan’s Minister of Gender, Child and Social Welfare lauded the advocacy visit stating “The Maputo Protocol on Women’s Rights is timely and this mission is extremely relevant to fast-track the process. Ratifying it will present a lot of opportunities for South Sudan”.
In response to the request that was made by PATTEC-South Sudan, the PATTEC Coordination Office organized on-the-jobs technical support to the national Coordination Office staff in support of developing national database and promoting use of GIS and Remote Sensing for T&T field planning and interventions from 20 – 24 May 2019 in Juba, South Sudan.
Juba, South Sudan, 22 July 2017: The African Union Commission (AUC) in accordance with the Communiqué of the 547th meeting of the African Union Peace and Security Council (PSC) of 29 September 2015, embarked on a consultative mission to Juba from 20 to 22 July 2017 to engage with the Transitional Government of National Unity on the implementation of Chapter V (3) of the Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan of August 2015 (“Peace Agreement”), which relates to the establishment of the Hybrid Court for South Sudan.
Addis Ababa, 8 July 2016: The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union (AU), Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has learned, with extremely great concern, of the very serious incidents that took place on 8 July 2016, during which the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-In Opposition (SPLA-IO) forces engaged in very deadly exchange of gunfire in parts of Juba, including at the Office of the President while the President, the 1st Vice-President and the Vice-President were in a meeting.
