AUC Commissioner Tumusiime and French Minister Canfin discuss Climate Change issues

Monday 08 July, 2013- The Commissioner for Rural Economy and Agriculture of the African Union Commission (AUC), Mrs. Rhoda Peace Tumusiime received in audience the France Minister of Development, Mr. Pascal Canfin ton 08 July 2013 at the AU headquarters, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Commissioner Tumusiime and Minister Canfin discussed on key areas of cooperation within the framework of Climate Change, agricultural development and energy.

The Commissioner highlighted the AUC structural and common approach on climate change and related issues.

She stressed on the implementation gaps with respect to the consensus of various climate talks. “There has not been transparency on the implementation of the agreed components of climate change”, she noted.

Acknowledging the set backs in finding quick solutions for Climate Change problems in Africa the French Minister assured the support of his Government in the area of climate change.

The two personalities underscored the importance of finding innovative sources of financing as well as adopt a better strategic approach for the implementation of the Climate Change agenda, and other key areas of common interest.
