The African Union Commission will launch African Scientific Research and Innovation Council (ASRIC) during it’s first Congress in Abuja, Nigeria, from 27 – 29 November 2018, at Abuja Sheraton Hotel.
ASRIC is a continental platform to mobilize African research excellence and innovation. It will serve as forum for dialogue and a voice of the scientific community in building and sustaining continental research-policy nexus with the aim of addressing Africa’s socio-economic development challenges.
The Council is a direct implementation of the decision of the AU executive Council: EX.CL/Dec.747 (XXII) which requests the Commission to establish ASRIC within its strictures and resources.
The inauguration meeting will bring together Director Generals of National Research Councils / Presidents of national Academies of Sciences, scientific community of AU member states, funding agencies, private sector, Civil Society, Entrepreneurs and business leaders and other relevant stakeholders.
It is expected that with the establishment of ASRIC, scientific research and innovation will be boosted and promoted across the continent. Africa, needs a stronger, more dynamic and sustainable research enterprise that is important to its economy and the society
