What: Validation Workshop of Draft Evaluation Report of the 2006 Ouagadougou Plan of Action on the Prevention of Trafficking in Persons in Africa, especially on Women and Children
When: 20-21 March 2019
Where: LAKE VICTORIA SERENA GOLF RESORT & SPA, Kampala, Uganda
Who: The training workshop is convened by the Department of Social Affairs (DSA) of the African Union Commission

Objectives: The aim of the Validation Workshop of Draft Evaluation Report of the 2006 Ouagadougou Plan of Action on the Prevention of Trafficking in Persons in Africa, especially on Women and Children is to provide further input to the draft report and finally provide a go ahead to implement the recommendations of the report to address existing policy and operational gaps in the prevention of the irregular migration in the continent.

The Specific objectives of the workshop are to:
a) Present the Draft Evaluation Report of the 2006 Ouagadougou Plan of Action for input by AU Member States and Regional Economic Communities (RECs) to enhance the ownership of the report;
b) Seek endorsement of the report with amendments based on the input received;
c) Present the situation analysis on the smuggling of Human beings and Modern-Day Slavery in Africa with a view of finding a way forward to prevent it; and
d) Seek the approval of the meeting to implement the recommendations of the Evaluation Report that may include revision of the Plan of Action and/ or develop new solid policy and legal instrument to sustainably support AU Member States and RECs in addressing Trafficking in Persons and other forms if irregular migration in Africa.

Expected Outcome:
The workshop is expected to endorse the Evaluation Report with input from the AU Member States and RECs.

Participants:
The workshop seeks to bring together senior officials of AU Member States from ministries or departments dealing with the prevention of trafficking in persons at national level. Participants are drawn from law enforcement, judicial, prosecution and human rights departments of AU Member States. The meeting will also include representatives from RECs dealing with trafficking issues and representatives from UN Agencies and other relevant partners dealing with irregular migration in the continent.

Media representatives are invited to take part and cover the activities of the workshop.
