The Tax Transparency in Africa 2020 report is a key output of the Africa Initiative, co-produced by the African Union Commission, the OECD hosted Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes (The Global Forum) and the African Tax Administration Forum. The Africa Initiative was first launched in 2014 by the Global Forum together with its African Union Member States and various partners to unlock the potential of transparency and exchange of information for tax purposes in Africa.
We invite journalists to join a live launch event on Thursday 25 June 2020, from 15:00 to 16:00 (EAT) / 14:00 – 15:00 Central European Summer Time (CEST). The webinar will feature a presentation of the report and expert inputs from partner organisations, followed by a 10-15 minute Q&A. There will be simultaneous interpretation in English and in French.

The African Union spearheads Africa’s development and integration in close collaboration with African Union Member States, the Regional Economic Communities and African citizens. AU Vision: to accelerate progress towards an integrated, prosperous and inclusive Africa, at peace with itself, playing a dynamic role in the continental and global arena, effectively driven by an accountable, efficient and responsive Commission.  
The Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes is a multilateral framework for tax transparency and information sharing, within which over 160 jurisdictions participate on an equal footing, including 32 African countries. The Global Forum monitors and peer reviews the implementation of international standard of exchange of information on request and automatic exchange of information. It also provide capacity building to its members to assist them in the implementation of and benefit from the internationals standards. The Global Forum has a self-standing dedicated Secretariat, based in the OECD’s Centre for Tax Policy and Administration.
The African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) serves as an African network that aims at improving tax systems in Africa through exchanges, knowledge dissemination, capacity development and active contribution to the regional and global tax agenda. Improved tax systems will increase accountability of the State to its citizens, enhance domestic resource mobilization and thereby foster inclusive economic growth. Now in its 11th year of existence, ATAF has positioned itself as Africa’s homegrown solution to improving revenue collection, advancing the role of taxation in governance and state-building and providing a voice for the continent on international tax issues.
