INVITATION TO THE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE MEDIA

               What: African Youth for Transitional Justice (TJ) Training Program- Second Round

When:  From Tuesday, 23rd November 2021 to Wednesday, 24th November 2021, starting from 9:00AM (EAT)

                Where: The training will take place at Hilton Hotel in Nairobi, Republic of Kenya in a plenary and group sessions in English and French languages.

Who:    The Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security (PAPS) of the African Union Commission (AUC).

Purpose and Objectives:

The Overall goal of the project is to promote youth participation in the conceptualization and implementation of transitional justice mechanisms in AU Member States. Specific Objectives include:

1. Promote Youth understanding of the African Union Transitional Justice Policy;

2. Increase the numbers of TJ experts in Africa through training of youth on transitional justice;

3. Establishment of a continental Youth Platform on transitional justice for experience sharing and capacity building;

4. Strengthen youth participation in ongoing transitional justice mechanisms and programmes in AU Member States;

5. Operationalize the African Youth for Transitional Justice (AY4TJ) Platform

Project Outcomes

  1. Increased number of youth with understanding of the African Union Transitional Justice Policy;
  2. Establishment of a Continental Youth Platform on Transitional Justice in Africa (AY4TJ);
  3. Increased TJ experts and practitioners, and expanded TJ space in Africa;
  4. Comprehensive database of trained African youth on transitional justice developed.

Participants:           

Forty-five (45) successful applicants from across the continent would be brought together for a two-day training on the African Union Transitional Justice Policy. Special consideration is given to youth from countries that are currently implementing transitional justice programmes. Six (6) experienced transitional justice trainers will be anchoring different sessions of the training.
